Mattress Firm Partners with Tempur-Pedic and American Legion Auxiliary to Help Deserving Veterans Across the Country Sleep Better
More than 40 veterans will receive a new mattress set
HOUSTON, Oct. 27, 2011 – Pam Kelly, of the Tampa, Fla., area, suffered a crushing injury in 2002 while in the Army National Guard, resulting in spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries that left three limbs paralyzed. Financial constraints have kept her from buying the Tempur-Pedic mattress her doctors have long recommended.
In the campaign of Granada, Michael Saucier, of Albany, La., was a Navy helicopter crewmember participating in airlift operations of ground troops. A disabling injury later ended his Navy career, but he still works tirelessly to help other veterans.
In honor of the men and women who have served the United States through military duty, Mattress Firm has partnered with Tempur-Pedic to donate a new king- or queen-size mattress set to Kelly, Saucier and veterans in 38 other cities in which Mattress Firm operates. The American Legion Auxiliary’s extensive volunteer network helped identify the recipients and coordinate a meeting with Mattress Firm employees in each city.
The veterans will attend meetings at local Mattress Firm stores on Saturday, Oct. 29, to share their stories and receive recognition for their service. New Tempur-Pedic Cloud sets will be delivered to the veterans’ homes as their schedules allow.
“We are honored to recognize heroes in our local communities,” said Steve Stagner, Mattress Firm CEO and President. “These men and women made great sacrifices to defend the liberty and freedom of the United States. Providing a better night’s sleep is a small token of our appreciation.”
The American Legion Auxiliary is honored to help identify veterans to receive these mattress sets after sacrificing so much for their country,” said Mary “Dubbie” Buckler, American Legion Auxiliary executive director and secretary. “Helping veterans on the grassroots level is exactly what the ALA was founded to do.”
