National CommitteeMembership
As the nation’s largest patriotic women’s service organization, the strength and influence of the American Legion Auxiliary is derived from its members. The Membership Committee works to ensure the future growth and prosperity of the organization by partnering with units, departments, and divisions to develop strategies to retain current members, recruit new ones, and engage all in mission-related activities. Current members renew their memberships when they believe the Auxiliary continues to offer them something of value for their lives. The Auxiliary's Strategic Plan has set forth a goal for the organization to attract new members and retain 95 percent of its current members year after year, and the Membership Committee is responsible for reaching that goal.

Purpose Statement

To oversee the nationwide effort to recruit and sustain a diverse, active membership and establish new units to ensure the future growth and prosperity of the organization;  to promote the benefits of membership in the American Legion Auxiliary and encourage department chairmen to coordinate their membership programs with units in their respective states with the aims and purposes of the organization.

Membership Workshop

Membership chairmen, presidents, and secretaries at the department (state) level attend a three-day workshop hosted every spring at the Auxiliary's National Headquarters in Indianapolis, Ind. Programming is spearheaded by the incoming national president, national membership chairman, and National Headquarters leadership. The primary goal of this event is to prepare participants to lead the charge for engaging, retaining, and recruiting members for the Auxiliary. The more we grow, the more veterans we can serve. Click for Details

Honoring Their Service Button
The 2011-2012 American Legion Auxiliary National Membership team is excited to present the theme for the administrative year: Honoring Their Service. In support of this concept, the Membership team is creating custom buttons for Auxiliary members with a photo of a special veteran in their life. It can be any photo—a military photo, a candid current shot or a favorite image in any environment.

We hope you’ll help us spread the wonderful work of our organization while using our special veteran connection to engage new members.  Download Order Form (pdf)
