Purpose StatementTo provide an outstanding, unique, and coveted educational opportunity for the young women of our nation that instills the basic ideals and principles of American government through the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation citizenship training programs.
Eligibility
Girls who have successfully completed their junior year of high school and who have at least one more semester remaining are considered. Previous participants of a Girls State competition are not allowed to attend a second session. Only those who illustrate leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty and service in their schools and community should be considered. Merit and ability are the basis for evaluation during the actual citizens selection process.
The selection process often differs throughout the United States.
The ideal method is for schools to recommend lists of eligible candidates to local America Legion Auxiliary Units.
If you, or someone you know is interested in attending Girls State contact the guidance counselor at your high school or your local Auxiliary Unit.
