When a local radio station in Willoughby announced it was looking for groups to host shows on WINT Integrity Radio 1330am, or 101.5FM, Palmer-Roberts ALA Unit 214 decided it would explore the possibility of doing a show about who we are, what we do, and why we matter. After speaking with the station, however, their unit determined this wasn’t the best option as it required sponsors which Unit 214 could not afford. Then, after much consideration, WINT decided they wanted the unit to do a weekly show entitled “They Sacrificed for Us.” Palmer-Roberts ALA Unit 214 is now live every Tuesday at 9pm. Co-hosts of the show are Sue and Bob Fratino, ALA Unit 214 president and SAL squadron vice commander, respectively.
The inaugural show took place March 7, 2017, with special guests ALA Ohio Department President Denise Conrad and ALA Ohio Past Department President Martha Setlock. Membership eligibility requirements were discussed, as well as how to go about joining our great organization. The ALA mission of serving veterans, their families, educating citizens, mentoring youth, and promoting patriotism was also part of the program. Denise and Martha spoke about The American Legion’s Legislative Agenda.
Their guests have grown to include 2016-2017 ALA National President Mary E. Davis, Ohio Sen. Kenny Yuko, Ohio Rep. John Rogers, Volunteers of America, and a World War II veteran.
