Margie Abbott's pictorial story shared on Facebook demonstrates what big things a small unit - 23 members - can do. They put their mission in action making cookies for troops in Middleton, Del. and collaborated with several groups and organizations within their community to bless our servicemembers.
Bob Evans and Middletown High School Culinary School donated the pre-baked cookies for the event. The American Legion Family at Canal Post 25 helped bake the cookies. Now in their third year, they made over 500 cookies.
Maj. General F. Vavala (Ret.) of the Delaware National Guard served as official cookie tester and will continue in this position for as long as he can. The current Maj. General Carol Timmons was unable to attend but sent two senior ranking officers to assist in the process.
The cookies were packed in bags and delivered to American Legion Unit 28's National Security Chairman Nancy Bush for shipping overseas to troops. Thanks to the Middletown VFW, who allows The American Legion Family to pack the cookies at their building. They also donated $200 towards postage to help offset the cost.
