Interested in Joining the ALA Call to Service Corps AmeriCorps Project?

Do you want to support our nation’s servicemembers, veterans and military families while gaining valuable work experience and networking with premier, nationally recognized nonprofit organizations?

The American Legion Auxiliary Call to Service Corps AmeriCorps Project provides opportunities for hardworking, devoted individuals to support veteran and military communities and organizations through a year-long term as an AmeriCorps Member or AmeriCorps VISTA Member. Participating individuals earn a modest living allowance and additional benefits while serving with renowned nonprofit organizations like AMVETS, Student Veterans of America, Operation Homefront, Blue Star Families, Points of Light and many more.

Click here for a complete list of Call to Service Corps participating organizations.

  • Here are a few AmeriCorps members and alums describing their ALA Call to Service Corps experiences:

I couldn't turn down the chance to hone my writing skills and work with many nonprofits in the DC area. I don't come from a military background. Over my service term, I learned so much about our military community and have really gained an appreciation for the sacrifices made by servicemembers, veterans and military families.”

Jen Jones, Community Blueprint Initiative - Washington, D.C.

I have had the chance to work with some amazing people. The work that is done [at USA Cares] literally changes people’s lives. The greatest feeling that I have had since being here was when I was able to assist my first veteran. I didn’t think much about making a simple car payment for an Afghanistan veteran. It didn’t hit me what an impact that I had had on this servicemember's life until I received an email a few days later thanking me for what I had done for him and his family.”

Jason Kennedy (Veteran), USA Cares - Radcliff, Kentucky

I feel like I do something different every day. I work with servicemembers and their families and help with whatever they need.”

Sarah Kline, Operation Homefront - Gaithersburg, Maryland

The ability to combine the Call to Service Corps, ALA, and the Armed Service YMCA has been a dream come true for me. I’m fulfilling many community needs while fulfilling my own personal need to take care of soldiers, their families, and the civilian community as well. This past year has most certainly been one of the rewarding years of my life!

Amber Stone (Veteran), Armed Services YMCA – Waynesville (Ft. Leonard Wood), Missouri

I can honestly say that because of my AmeriCorps experiences, I have had some amazing life-changing experiences, become a stronger individual and become more confident in my skills. That being said, national service is not something you do for the money. It’s something you do to improve yourself and the lives of others. What you get out of it is entirely up to you."

Nathan Brown, American Legion Auxiliary National Headquarters - Indianapolis, Indiana
