California resident named national vice president of the American Legion Auxiliary

  • INDIANAPOLIS—8/31/12—Nancy Brown-Park, of Palm Desert, Calif., was elected national vice president of the American Legion Auxiliary during the organization’s 92nd National Convention in Indianapolis Aug. 24-30.

    Brown-Park, 65, joined the American Legion Auxiliary through her father, Richard D. Brown, a WWII Army Air Corps veteran. She is also eligible through the service of her husband, Jim Park, a Navy Vietnam War veteran.

    “As we celebrate ‘Angels in Service’ this year, I know that each member will support this theme by helping veterans, our military and their families across America,” Brown-Park told Auxiliary members and convention delegates at her installation speech.

    Brown-Park, a 64-year member of the Auxiliary, has held numerous leadership positions in the organization at the unit, district and department levels. At the national level, she was chairman of the following committees: Junior Activities, Public Relations, National Security, Constitution & Bylaws, Membership, Children & Youth and Veteran Affairs & Rehabilitation. She was also a member of the National Executive Committee in 2002-2003.

    Brown-Park has a background as a retail buyer and currently owns and operates a sales and marketing company. She exemplifies the American Legion Auxiliary motto of Service Not Self by actively volunteering in her community and with other philanthropic organizations. She and her husband have two children, Christopher and Chloe, who are also part of The American Legion Family.

    Founded in 1919, the American Legion Auxiliary is the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization. With a membership of nearly 800,000, local American Legion Auxiliary units have a strong presence in more than 9,000 communities nationwide. The American Legion Auxiliary’s mission to serve veterans, the military and their families is carried out through its hundreds of outreach programs delivered by its members, volunteers and National Headquarters.
